Duties:
New York State Troopers who are employed by the New York State Police, perform a wide range of police duties. These duties not only include highway patrol, but also regular police services and investigations.
Salary
- $56,174 – Starting salary (during Academy training and first year)
- $79,467 – After one year
- $94,497 – After five years
- Salaries may be higher due to contract negotiations

- Investigator Base Salary: $105,197
- Sergeant Base Salary: $111,346
- Lieutenant Base Salary: $133,110
- Salaries may be higher due to contract negotiations
Requirements:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Must be at least 20 years old by the application deadline date
- Must not have reached your 30th birthday by the application deadline
- Must be at least 21 years to be hired
- Must be appointed prior to 36th birthday ( military exemption applies)
- A New York State resident
- NYS driver’s license
- Pass a physical ability test
- May be required to work rotating shifts any day of the week, including holidays
- No worse than 20/100 (uncorrected vision) in each eye – corrected to 20/20 (no color blindness)
- No visible tattoos, brands, body piercings or other body art while wearing short sleeve uniform
- High school Diploma, or NYS High School Equivalency Diploma, or Military GED certificate, or High School Equivalency Diplomas from another state converted to a NYS High School equivalency
- 60 college credit hours at an accredited college or university
